IPPW Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Harassment, and Anti-Discrimination Policy

Statement of Policy and Ground Rules

It is the policy of the International Planetary Probe Workshop (IPPW) that all participants in IPPW activities will enjoy an environment free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. While participating in IPPW events or related activities, any participants, including speakers, attendees, volunteers, guests, sponsors, and staff, must not engage in harassment in any form. All event participants are expected to behave according to professional standards and in accordance with their employer's or university’s policies on appropriate workplace behavior. IPPW is dedicated to equality of opportunity and treatment for all members, regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion or religious belief, age, marital status, disabilities, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, or other protected status. Harassment, sexual or otherwise, will not be tolerated in IPPW activities or practices.

Expected Behavior

  1. All attendees, staff, speakers, and guests are to be treated with respect and consideration, valuing a diversity of views and opinions.

  2. Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.

  3. Communicate openly with respect for others, critiquing ideas rather than individuals.

  4. Avoid personal attacks directed toward other attendees, staff, speakers, and guests.

  5. Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert venue personnel, including International Organizing Committee (IOC) or Local Organizing Committee (LOC) personnel, if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.

  6. Respect the rules and policies of the meeting venue, hotels, or any other venue.

How to Report Concerns and Consequences

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior of the type described above, please immediately notify any member of the IPPW International Organizing Committee (IOC) or Local Organizing Committee (LOC).  The staff at the event registration table can connect you with an IOC or LOC member. Names and email addresses IOC and LOC members can also be found on the IPPW website.  IPPW does not accept anonymous complaints. We must verify the complainant’s identity to allow for proper review and follow-up of any allegation.

Anyone requested to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. Individuals engaging in behavior prohibited by this policy as well as those making allegations of harassment in bad faith will be subject to disciplinary action. Such actions range from a verbal warning to ejection from the meeting or activity in question without refund of registration fees. The IPPW Organizing Committees additionally reserve the right to prohibit attendance at any future meeting.

If you experience or witness behavior that constitutes an immediate or serious threat to public safety, immediately contact emergency personnel (9-1-1 in the US) and ask for security.
